The Birth of a Craft Beer Flight

Step #1

The Steel Frame:  A 3/16” thick solid steel plate is cut to size (at temperatures approaching 40,000 degrees) on our CNC plasma table. The piece is deburred, and all edges are inspected and filed smooth. For scale, three (3) standard USA pennies stacked on top of one another equals approximately 3/16”.

Step #2

The Hardwood Backer: A 1.25” – 1.5” thick piece of hand selected, rough sawn maple (or white oak) is carefully cut, surfaced and planed to a final thickness of 1.”  The outline of the steel frame is transferred to the hardwood backer and cut on the bandsaw.

Step #3

The hole locations for the Belgian style beer glasses are precisely measured and drilled on the drill press.  Four (4) Libbey 3816 5 oz. Belgian Beer Tasting Glasses are included in the set.

Step #4

The steel frame is fitted to the hardwood backer and holes are drilled to receive the custom bolts that will mate the two pieces together.

Step #5

The sharp edges on the underside of the backing board are eased over with a hand held router.

Step #6

All surfaces are sanded smooth and prepared to receive your personal message or name.

Step #7

Three (3) coats of spray lacquer are applied to the steel frame and the backing board to protect the finish.

Step #8

The final step is assembling the components and testing the fit to ensure the glasses move freely within the flight tray.

Life for this craft beer flight begins when it is neatly packed in a box and shipped to you.

18.5” Long x 4.5" Wide x +- 1-3/16” overall thickness (1” hardwood backer + 3/16” thick steel frame.

The Steel Frame:  Raw steel with a three (3) coat spray lacquer finish. Due to the nature of mild steel, no two steel frames will ever appear the same guaranteeing a truly one of a kind gift.  Slight variations may occur between the items pictured and the item you receive

The Hardwood Backer:  The natural color of the wood is sealed with a three (3) coat spray lacquer finish. Due to the grain pattern and coloring of hardwood, no two beer flight trays will ever appear the same guaranteeing a truly one of a kind gift.  Slight variations may occur between the items pictured and the item you receive. 

Customization:
We will apply a custom message or name of your choice. Characters are limited to the available space on the front and sides of the beer flight.  There is approximately 4” Wide x 1.25” High area available on the face and approximately 8” Wide x 1” High area along the sides.  Your message will be sized to fit the available area. When ordering, please provide the information below.  Please make note to write the message/name exactly as you would like it to appear.
